  STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (SWMP)


In 2003, the District was mandated by the State, under the federal Clean Water Act, to develop and implement a Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) for the BMSD. During the first five-year term, the District initiated several actions, including:


  • Setting up a Stormwater Steering Committee and appointing a Stormwater Coordinator
  • Developing a Stormwater Website
  • Issuing newsletters and fact sheets on stormwater related issues
  • Holding Student Participation Programs
  • Conducting Training Programs for O & M Staff
  • Developing Storm Sewer Maps
  • Adopting Guidance Procedures for Construction-Related Activity and for the Control of Illicit Discharges (nonstormwater discharges)
  • Conducting Annual Public Meetings
  • Preparing Annual Reports to the State

    Welcome to the Watershed Academy's Distance Learning Program -- Watershed Academy Web. This Web site offers a variety of self-paced training modules that represent a basic and broad introduction to the watershed management field. The modules are organized by the six themes listed above. Modules vary in the time they to complete, from ½ hour to 2 hours. Fifteen of them (marked with asterisks * below) are the core modules for the Watershed Academy Certificate Program.
